Health Care: A Right or a Privilege?
March 31st 2010 11:03 pm
Is access to health care a right or a privilege? This week “we” have decided, apparently, that it is a right. The businesses that have historically eased that access, the health insurance industry, have been cast as the bad guys, greedy bastards interested only in making a profit. They will no longer be allowed to make sound business decisions like charging more for older clients and pre-existing conditions. And when they fail as businesses, well, we can always take on that role as a society and tax ourselves into oblivion by refusing to make those same sound business decisions. After all, everyone, no matter what, has the right to access to health care.
Is access to food a right or a privilege? The need for food is more immediate and usually more urgent than access to health care. It follows that the businesses that grow, process, distribute, and sell our food are greedy bastards, too, interested only in making a profit. They should no longer be allowed to refuse to give their products to people who cannot or will not pay for them. And when they fail as businesses, well, we can always take on that role as a society. After all, everyone, no matter what, has the right to access to food.
Is access to clothing a right or a privilege? Surely it’s more urgent than health insurance. What will we do about those greedy bastards who would rather make a profit than distribute clothing and shoes, free, to the needy? Do they even deserve to stay in business? Doesn’t everyone, no matter what, deserve access to clothing?
Is access to housing a right or a privilege?
Transportation? Recreation? House repairs? Clothing repairs? Car repairs? Snow removal? A furnace? An air conditioner? A water heater? An umbrella? Hand sanitizer?

The Democratic Declaration of Dependence
IN CONGRESS, March 21, 2010
The unanimous Declaration of the fifty United States of America
When in the Course of human events it becomes necessary for one party to dissolve the political bands which have prevented the fair and just care and protection of our fellow citizens, we find it necessary to assume the role of the guardian and protector and do so with courage and conviction. Using the purity of our thoughts and the power of the air waves we assume among the powers of the earth the separate and equal station to which the Laws of Nature and our Laws of Governance entitle us to. We, the members of the Democratic ruling class, having successfully manipulated the poorest among us to believe that change is always for the better and hope is eternal. We will allow the free and open expression of our common citizens with the understanding that they are just children just acting out in a rebellious manner. Furthermore, we know that they are now incapable of self-motivation and self-reliance and hereby declare their dependence to the Democratic Party.
Those of us of a higher and elite nature have been charged with providing for every aspect of their care regardless of cost or concern and that we will defer the burden of cost to future generations. We will ensure that the entitlements granted to our dependants formerly known as Americans will now be hence forth called Americants reflecting this new found desire for dependence. The party will be expanded without limits with the legalization of all immigrants now hard at work support our vision of socialization.
We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all citizens are equally dependent, that they are endowed by their own nature with certain unalienable Rights that among these are entitlements, subsidies and universal health care. That to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among media outlets, deriving their just powers by decreasing the independence and self-reliance of the governed, until such time that they become totally dependent on the government for everything. Whenever any Form of Government becomes destructive of these dependencies, it is the Right of the People to defer on to future generations any thoughts which seem most likely to affect their Health, Welfare, and long term Dependency.
